The Alder is a pendant that earns its place through craft and material quality alone. Constructed from FSC-certified Tilia Americana wood — a fine-grained, naturally pale timber — the shade is formed from curved wooden ribs that create an open, airy globe silhouette. When lit, the gaps between each rib allow light to spill outward and cast intricate patterns across walls and ceiling, creating the kind of warm, living atmosphere that only natural materials and an exposed filament bulb can produce.

The open structure means the light source itself becomes part of the effect — choose a decorative filament or Edison-style bulb and the Alder becomes as much a design object as a light fitting. The natural finish works easily across Scandi, mid-century, organic and contemporary interiors, and the warm tone of the wood picks up beautifully under warm white light. At 43cm in diameter the Alder is well suited to dining tables, reading corners and bedrooms where a statement pendant is wanted without the full scale of the larger version.

The Alder is FSC-certified and flat-packed for easy home assembly. Also available in black, and as a larger 65cm version for bigger spaces and dining rooms — the Alder 65cm brings the same design language with significantly more presence.

Our Lighting Designer’s Tip — getting the height right above a dining table

The bottom of your pendant should sit approximately 76–91cm above the surface of your dining table. This keeps the light within the eyeline of seated guests — close enough to feel intimate, high enough that no one is looking through it across the table. The width of your fitting should be at least 15cm narrower than the width of your table on each side — the 43cm Alder suits tables from around 75cm wide upwards.

For any other position, subtract the total drop from your ceiling height — your minimum head clearance should be 2.1m.
