At 65cm in diameter, the Alder large pendant is a fitting that fills a room with warmth, light and the kind of material presence that mass-produced pendants rarely achieve. The same open-rib construction as the smaller Alder, scaled up to make a genuinely bold statement above a dining table, in an open-plan living space, or anywhere a single central pendant needs to hold its own.

Constructed from FSC-certified Tilia Americana wood — a fine-grained, naturally pale timber — the shade’s curved wooden ribs create an open globe silhouette that casts intricate patterns of light and shadow across every surface when lit. The effect shifts as you move around the room and changes character entirely as daylight fades, rewarding you differently at different times of day. Choose a decorative filament or Edison-style bulb and the Alder becomes as much a sculpture as a light source.

The 65cm diameter gives this fitting real authority — it comfortably anchors a dining table for six to eight, an open-plan kitchen and dining space, or a generous living room. The natural wood finish coordinates beautifully with oak, linen, stone and warm white interiors, and holds its own against bolder colour schemes without competing.

Our Lighting Designer’s Tip — getting the height right above a dining table

The bottom of your pendant should sit approximately 76–91cm above the surface of your dining table. This keeps the light within the eyeline of seated guests — close enough to feel intimate, high enough that no one is looking through it across the table. The width of your fitting should be at least 15cm narrower than the width of your table on each side — the 65cm Alder suits tables from around 95cm wide upwards and looks particularly well-proportioned above a table for six or eight.

For any other position, subtract the total drop from your ceiling height — your minimum head clearance should be 2.1m.
