Our Lighting Designer’s Tip — How to Use Wall Lights Like an Interior Pro

Wall lights are one of the most underused tools in home lighting design — and one of the most transformative. Where a ceiling light floods a room with general light, a well-placed wall light does something far more interesting: it creates layers.

The golden rule is to think in threes. Combine an overhead light with a floor lamp and a pair of wall lights, and suddenly your room has depth, warmth, and atmosphere rather than just brightness.

Wall lights positioned at around eye level (roughly 150–160cm from the floor) cast the most flattering, ambient glow — perfect for living rooms, hallways, and bedrooms.

They're also brilliant for highlighting architecture. Either side of a fireplace, flanking a mirror, or framing a piece of artwork — wall lights draw the eye exactly where you want it and give a room a sense of considered design and style.
