The bottom of the shade should sit approximately 76–91cm above the table surface — close enough to feel intimate without crossing the eyeline of seated guests.

Above a kitchen island:

Install with the bottom of the shade approximately 76–91cm above the worktop surface for practical, comfortable task lighting.

For any other position, subtract the total drop from your ceiling height — your minimum head clearance should be 2.1m.
