Meet The Heroes of Summer - Launching... Lightbox Ceiling Fans

Meet The Heroes of the Summer - Our Gorgeous New Ceiling Fans

By Sally Edwards, Studio Co-ordinator

Summer is here - and if you've been wondering how to keep your home cool without compromising on style, we have just the answer.

We're thrilled to introduce Lightbox's fabulous collection of ceiling fans. Sleek, beautiful, and designed to harmonise within a wide range of interiors, our ceiling fans will keep you cool and comfortable - whilst looking great too.

Mention the words "ceiling fan" and a certain image tends to spring to mind: heavy mahogany blades, a rattan-and-wicker aesthetic, something you might find in a colonial plantation house. Beautiful in context, perhaps, but not exactly the look most of us are going for.

Here's the thing, though: the modern ceiling fan has been completely re-imagined. Today's designs are refined, architect-approved, and genuinely gorgeous. And they're just as much a lighting choice as a cooling one, because our fans combine both functions in one beautifully engineered fitting.

So whether you're thinking about your living space, bedroom, home office or conservatory, read on. A ceiling fan might just be the best investment you make this summer.

Your Questions Answered by Our In-House Lighting Designer, Jack Inston

How easy is it to install a ceiling fan?

Much easier than you might think - no more involved than fitting any other ceiling light.

"One of the first things clients ask me is whether they need a specialist fitter" says Jack. "The answer is no - any electrician experienced in fitting ceiling lights can install one of these fans without any additional training or equipment. It really is that straightforward."

In practical terms, that means your fan could arrive today and be up and running this evening. No complicated and expensive installation - just cool, comfortable air by nightfall.

How does a ceiling fan compare to air conditioning?

In most ways, very favourably!

"I'd always recommend considering a ceiling fan before air conditioning," says Jack, "and not just on grounds of cost - though that's significant. It's about what the fitting does for your room."

Air conditioning units require substantial investment to install, specialist engineers, and sometimes structural work to your house. A ceiling fan, by contrast, is fitted in a single visit by any competent electrician. But beyond cost, it's the aesthetics that really set the ceiling fan apart.

"A wall-mounted air conditioning box will always be an interruption in a room - they are not good looking, and there's just no way around that fact." Jack explains. "A beautiful ceiling fan is the opposite - choose the right one, and it will complement your decor and elevate your interior design to new heights - and all for a fraction of the cost of air conditioning!"

And from an environmental perspective - always an important consideration these days - ceiling fans use a fraction of the electricity that air conditioning consumes, making them a meaningful eco-conscious choice.

How high does my ceiling need to be, and what size fan should I choose?

"Getting the sizing right is really important," says Jack, "and it's something I'm always happy to advise on."

As a general guide, you'll need a minimum ceiling height of around 2.3m. For standard ceiling heights of 2.4m–2.7m, a flush-mounted fan that sits close to the ceiling is ideal. For higher ceilings of 2.7m and above, a fan with a drop rod will give you better airflow.

Smaller spaces, such as a bedroom or study, suit a fan with a diameter of 60–80cm, while larger living areas and conservatories will benefit from something with a diameter of 90cm or above.

"If you're ever unsure," Jack adds, "just get in touch. Matching the right fan to the right room is a conversation I'm always happy to have."

Two Fans We Love Right Now

The Sallis

At 72cm in diameter, the Sallis is a beautifully proportioned fan light - ideal for bedrooms and smaller living spaces. It features an 18W dimmable LED light, with a remote control for effortless adjustment of both the light (2700–5000K colour range) and fan speed.

Available in White, White/Wood, and Black/Wood finishes, it has a timeless style that harmonises easily within a range of interiors - scandi-minimal, mid-century and contemporary settings will all be elevated with the addition of this understated fitting.

The five-year warranty is a reassuring bonus too - you can rest assured that you'll be enjoying that cooling breeze for years to come!

The Zen

If you're looking for something a little more substantial - for a larger room or higher ceiling - the Zen, with a diameter of 105cm, is a striking choice.

A completely new design for ventilation lighting, the Zen uses a striking twist propeller concept, making this a central feature of the aesthetic.

The fitting is further enhanced by LED lights which are diffused within a dome shape ring, forming the fan's illuminating border - a truly stunning fitting, perfect for chic contemporary settings.

This fan light delivers an impressive 75W of dimmable LED light (7,700lm) alongside its powerful 35W DC fan, and has a single-speed function. The fitting is controllable via the remote control supplied with the fan, or alternatively via Bluetooth App, Alexa or Google voice control.

Available in White, White/Wood, Silver/Wood and Black/White finishes, the Zen is a room-defining piece.
